1. Information We Collect
Information you provide directly:
- Account registration details (name, email address, password hash)
- Academic profile information (grade, GPA, test scores)
- Preferences and interests (college targets, passions, traits, career goals)
- Content you post (activity reviews, messages to other users)
Information collected automatically:
- Browser and device type (for compatibility)
- Usage patterns (features accessed, time spent — used to improve the product)
2. How We Store Your Data
Pathfilet stores profile and account data to operate core features. Depending on account mode and feature usage, some data may be stored in your browser and/or secure backend services.
- We collect only data needed for personalization, account access, and support
- We do not sell student personal information
- We do not share student data with colleges or employers without explicit permission
School deployments can request FERPA-focused data handling controls and district-specific retention requirements.
3. AI Features and Third Parties
When you use AI-powered features (coaching, activity recommendations, action plans), your profile information is sent to
Anthropic's API to generate personalized responses. This includes:
- Your grade, GPA, test scores, target colleges
- Your passions, traits, and career interests
- Any messages you send to the AI coach
Anthropic processes this data under their own Privacy Policy. We recommend reviewing it. We do not store AI conversation history on our servers.
4. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Personalize activity recommendations, college matches, and AI coaching
- Enable messaging between users
- Improve and develop the Pathfilet platform
- Communicate with you about your account or service updates
We do
not:
- Sell your personal information to third parties
- Use your data for advertising targeting by third parties
- Share your information with colleges or employers without your explicit consent
5. User-Generated Content and Messaging
Reviews and advice you post publicly on activity pages may be visible to other Pathfilet users. Direct messages between users are stored locally and are only accessible to conversation participants. Please do not share sensitive personal information (Social Security numbers, financial information, passwords) in messages or reviews.
6. Children's Privacy and Consent
Pathfilet is designed for students. Users under 13 must have parent/guardian consent before using the service. If we learn a child account was created without required consent, we restrict and remove that account data.
7. FERPA and School Agreements
For school and district use cases where education records are involved, Pathfilet supports FERPA-aligned processing and provides Data Processing Agreement (DPA) terms on request. Contact

8. Data Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your information, including:
- Password hashing (your password is never stored in plain text)
- HTTPS encryption for all data in transit
- API keys stored securely server-side, never exposed to browsers
No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. We encourage you to use a strong, unique password.
9. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate information in your profile
- Delete your account and associated data
- Opt out of non-essential communications

10. Cookies
Pathfilet uses minimal browser storage (localStorage) to maintain your session and profile. We do not currently use tracking cookies or third-party advertising cookies.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, through in-app notices. Your continued use of Pathfilet after changes constitutes acceptance.
